Listed by Country Life magazine as one of the top manor houses in the country, Cadhay House also has gardens that are worth more than just a passing visit. The house is approached from the North down a lime tree avenue. On the East side it looks out over lawns with a ha-ha giving a seamless view over parkland - a very popular venue for wedding receptions

The gardens, together with the house are open to the public on Fridays between 2pm and 5.30pm from May to September. They are also open during the late May and Summer Bank Holidays - Saturday Sunday and Monday - from 2pm to 5.30pm. A Tea Room is open, serving light refreshments. For further details see our Open Days page

After farm buildings on the south side were demolished in 1910, a border was established and a lawn was laid out and planted with Irish yews leading to the mediaeval fish ponds. Plants of note include an avenue of limes, Gunnera manicata, Cotinus coggygnia, Cosmea bipinnatus, Magnolia grandiflora, dahlia hybrids and Echinacea purpurea. Photographs of the gardens can be seen in our picture gallery

There is a substantial walled garden on the West side which, prior to the advent of supermarkets, would have kept the house in fruit and vegetables throughout the year. Today it is a kitchen garden once more as a number of allotments have been created for local gardeners

“Cadhay is superb, but its surroundings are understated, gracious and beautiful”
